Duva Zapata nears West Ham move?

06 July 2013 - 06:15

Colombian striker Duvan Zapata has reportedly moved closer to agreeing a deal to move from Argentinian side Estudiantes La Plata to West Ham. According to the Daily Mirror, Zapata will join the Hammers as part of a $10 million deal.

  • The 22-year-old striker had a successful first year with Estudiantes last season, bagging 14 goals in 30 games in the league. Since then, Zapata has been pushing for a place in Colombia's national team but there is a huge wealth of striking talent to choose from, such as Monaco forward Radamel Falcao.

There remains a major concern though that a work permit cannot be approved for the player who does not meet full criteria to move to England. However, the Hammers are hopeful that special dispensation can be given to ensure he is allowed to make the move to Upton Park.

West Ham are hoping to bring Zapata in to partner Andy Carroll up front in a new look Sam Allardyce side.
