Mario Gomez Set For Fiorentina Switch

08 July 2013 - 15:33

According to the club website, Bayern Munich forward Mario Gomez has agreed in principle a move to Fiorentina. Bayern have agreed a deal in principle with the Serie A side Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The German international is reportedly very close to signing a four-year deal with Fiorentina. The 27-year-old managed to net 113 goals in over four seasons with the Bundesliga champions but struggled for a regular first team place, facing competition from Mario Mandzukic.

Gomez’s move to the Serie A side could be confirmed within the next couple of days. Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Viola president Andrea Della Valle held talks on Monday regarding the striker.

Rummenigge told the club’s official website:

"It was the desire of Mario Gomez to leave Bayern Munich to Florence. We have now complied with his wish"

"He has thus made a major contribution to two German championships and two DFB Pokal victories. The highlight was of course the Champions League victory and winning the treble last season. I would like to thank him for his performances for Bayern. On behalf of Bayern, I wish him luck and success in Florence!"

Gomez moved to Bayern in one of the most expensive deals in 2009 from Stuttgart for 20 million euros. He would be Fiorentina’s eighth signing this summer.
