Denilson: Arsenal working hard

30 October 2007 - 22:26

Denilson has said that Arsenal will be working "twice as hard" to ensure that they hang on to the Premiership title race. Denilson has rarely played during the Carling Cup, and has set out for more regular action in the Premiership. Wenger recently labelled Denilson one of the best young midfielders in the world.

  • The 19-year-old, who has been a certainty in Arsene Wenger’s Carling Cup side, also expressed his desire to make a regular place for himself in the Premiership and Champions League line-ups.

“At Arsenal we believe in ourselves. We knew we had a young team last year and we would be working twice as hard for the title this year,” said Denilson, who joined the north London club in 2006 summer from Sao Paulo for £3.4m fee.

“Our mindset and expectation is very good. We are really taking advantage of this.”

After his stunning show in the third round win over Newcastle United where he also scored his first goal, Denilson is set to face Sheffield United in tomorrow’s Carling Cup clash. But he has also set his sights on more prominent role in the more prestigious competitions.

“I would like to think my career is not just the Carling Cup, I feel I have already proved myself in that competition,” he said.

“My aim is to get in the first team for the Premiership, and the Champions League.”
