De Jong To Stay At Ajax

20 July 2013 - 19:44

Ajax will take a sigh of relief, now that Siem de Jong has decided to stay at the club, despite strong prospects of an exit from the club.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • The Netherland international had been strongly linked with an early exit from the club after he admitted last month that he felt it might be time for him to take “the next step, abroad”. His teammates, Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld , have also been looking for opportunities elsewhere.

De Jong has, however, decided to spend at least another season with the club, with two years still left on his contract. He has also urged his teammates to stay put at Ajax.

In his interview with the club’s website, he said, "It would be nice if this group stays together”

"I have spent the whole pre-season here already and I have a good feeling about the group and the staff.

"I'm here enjoying myself. I do not see why I should go now. I spoke to the coach yesterday and said that they can count on me."
