Tottenham To Finalise Deal For Roberto Soldado

28 July 2013 - 15:45

According to a report in Goal.com, Tottenham have finally reached an understanding with Valencia over the transfer of Roberto Soldado. The Spurs stepped up interest in the striker on Saturday as a response to the reported interest of Liverpool, who are also trying hard to hold on to Luis Suarez.

  • The sporting director of the club Franco Baldini was in Valencia last week to negotiate a deal for the Spanish striker, but his €26m plus add-ons offer failed to convince the Liga outfit.

But after a late interest from Liverpool was reported, the Spurs moved quickly to seize the 28-year-old’s transfer as Baldini reportedly agreed a deal with Valencia president Amadeo Salvo on Saturday, via telephone. The clubs have agreed on a €30 million deal, which could be completed this week.

New Valencia coach Miroslav Dzukic wanted to retain the striker but he has also resigned to Dzukic’s departure.

"I spoke with Roberto this morning. He is a great professional and he will be a huge loss if he leaves," Djukic said on Saturday.

Soldado joined Valencia in 2010 as a replacement for David Villa. He has scored 81 goals in 141 appearances for Valencia since his joining.

It is also understood that Soldado has agreed personal terms with Tottenham. It, however, remains to be settled as to how the the fee will be paid. Valencia want two payments of €15m, whereas their business counterparts are looking to spread the payment in several installments.
