29 July 2013 - 00:23

Joe Kinnear, who is the recently appointed Director of football for the Magpies wants to make a move for the Sunderland defender Phil Barsdley who is currently placed on the transfer market by the Black Cats, according to reports in the Sunday Express.

 • Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea
 • Man Utd set to hold contract talks with experienced star
 • Newcastle are the only side to have not signed a player this summer, even after their manager Alan Pardew's constant admission to the media of getting the job done on the club's summer transfer targets.
.
This will have a bitter feeling for both fans as the Magpies share a fierce rivalry with the Black Cats. However, Kinnear still wants to bring the 28-year-old defender to the North East this summer, with the full back set to be available on a cut-price deal.
The right back has so far notched up 167 appearances for Sunderland in all competitions, scoring seven goals in the process as well as winning the club’s Player of the Year award for the 2011-12 season.
