Schalke’s attempt to sign Xherdan Shaqiri has suffered a huge setback as Bayern Munich are not looking to sell the versatile attacker this summer.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has revealed that the club’s enquiries about the Switzerland international have not interested Bayern Munich as they are not ready to entertain a bid for him.
The Gelsenkirchen side are scouting the market for attacking reinforcements, following the departure of Michel Bastos, who moved to Al Ain. They targeted Shaqiri as a replacement for Bastos, but it appears they will have to look for other options now.
"I got in touch with Matthias Sammer to ask him about Xherdan Shaqiri's availability. Unfortunately, he made it clear that they do not want to let go of him," Heldt told Bild.
Shaqiri moved to Bayern from Basel last summer and has gone on to impress everyone at the club with some fine performances last term, with the Bavarians winning a historic treble. His future at the club has been surrounded by speculations after the arrivals of Thiago Alcantara and Mario Gotze this summer.
