Everton, who are believed to be in pole position to sign Belgium national team centre back Toby Alderweireld, have been given permission to speak to the Ajax defender. It is understood that the Toffees have already agreed a fee with the Dutch side.
Alderweireld is very highly rated by many teams in England, with London duo Tottenham and Arsenal both monitoring the player in recent weeks. However, neither side is ready to guarantee the Belgian first team football every week; something that the player is believed to be requesting as part of his move to England.
Everton, on the other hand, will offer the defender a regular place in the first team and want to make Alderweireld their marquee signing of the summer.
Alderweireld's father has also made encouraging comments today, saying: "Officially, we know nothing, but a nice English team is always interesting for Toby.
"There are only two possibilities. Either he signs in Amsterdam or leaves."
