Kevin Nolan rescued Bolton a point today with a last minute equaliser as Bolton drew 1-1 with West Ham at Upton Park. West Ham had led since the 20th minute when McCartney put them in front, but a Nolan goal was enough for both sides to share the spoils.
George McCartney opened the scoring in the 19th minute from Matthew Upson's flick-on, his first goal for West Ham, and it looked like another defeat for Megson.
But Danny Guthrie and Kevin Davies both hit the woodwork for the visitors, before Nolan struck at the death.
Bolton, without injured top scorer Nicolas Anelka, remain second bottom of the table -- but the late draw will give Megson, who replaced Sammy Lee as manager last month, hope that their two-month run without a win will soon be coming to an end.
Megson: we deserved a point
"West Ham had one or two chances, but we were playing tally-ho football towards the end and just gambling and fortunately we got away with it once or twice in our defensive third.
"But at the other end we have two efforts cleared off the line and from our point of view I think it is certainly something we deserved.
"We looked a bit tense and a bit nervous at the start, but West Ham is a difficult place to come and to get a point in the manner that we did will be a big fillip for us.
"A point is precious every time you play. It is not something we wanted because we wanted to win the game."
