10 August 2013 - 14:28

Kenya's international midfielder McDonald Mariga is a surprise target for Southampton. The player, who is currently on loan at Serie A side Parma from Inter Milan, has been recommended to the club by Mariga's brother, Victor Wanyama.

 • Chelsea keen on re-signing former graduate
 • It is understood that Southampton want to sign McDonald Mariga to partner Victor Wanyama at the heart of the club's midfield, with Morgan Schneiderlin alongside the duo.
Mariga has struggled to force his way into Inter Milan's first team plans since his arrival from Parma and is now frustrated with life in Italy and willing to move to England for the next stage of his career.
The 26-year-old defensive midfielder, who has been capped over 30 times by his country, will be allowed to leave Inter for a fee of around 2 million Euros as he is coming into the final year of his contract.
