Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan insists he would have sold Luis Suarez for the biting incident

11 August 2013 - 08:54

The Latics Chairman Dave Whelan has insisted that Liverpool should have part ways with their striker Luis Suarez after the player's biting incident with Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic last season.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The Uruguayan International is 6 games away from his completion of the 10-game suspension for biting the Blues defender in their 2-2 draw at Anfield back in April.

The Latics owner claimed that the Merseyside club should have sold their star forward due to the biting controversy.

Whelan told The Mirror : "I would have sold Suarez, you can't have a player who bites people.

"I would never let him pull on the Liverpool shirt again. Do Liverpool really want Suarez wearing their shirt when he bites somebody else?

"Of course, Liverpool will want to get the best fee possible for him, but that was the second time he had bitten someone. If he was a Wigan Athletic player, and he'd bitten somebody, he wouldn't put the shirt on for me again."
