Everton boss Martinez dismisses Fellaini rumors after missing friendly

12 August 2013 - 08:46

Newly appointed Everton manager Roberto Martinez has rubbished suggestions that Marouane Fellaini did not feature in the Toffees' friendly win over Real Betis due to his impending move to Manchester United.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The Spaniard claime that the Belgium international was rested as a result of an injury he picked up during the US tour.

"Marouane would have been available if it was a competitive game," said Martinez.

"He picked up a cut on the US tour. Bearing in mind he has to join the Belgium squad now - and in two days the infection will clear - I didn't want to risk hurting him."

Manchester United manager David Moyes signed the 25 year old from Standard Liege during his time at Everton and is keen to reunite with him at Old Trafford.

Moyes has been chasing Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas but it seems he has finally accepted defeat and is ready to raid his former club for the highly rated defensive midfielder.
