Seria A newcomers Hellas Verona produced a magnificent performance to stun AC Milan by two goals to one.
Andrea Poli gave Milan a 14th minute lead after some good moves by former Manchester City and Inter Milan man Mario Balotelli. It looked like a routine victory for Milan until former Italy striker Luca Toni scored his first header of the game to make it 1-1 30 minutes into the game.
Luca Toni doubled his money with another header on 53 minutes after a cross from Serbian winger Bosko Jankovic, after which Christian Abbiati denied Toni twice to keep his side in the game.
There were chances for Milan through Balotelli, Poli, Stephen El Shaarawy and substitute Robinho, to no avail.
