Real Madrid vice president Fernando Fernandez Tapias has laid the blame of Tottenham Hotspurs for dragging the Gareth Bale transfer too far but remain optimistic about landing him in the final days of the window.
The Los Blancos were reported to have agreed a fee for the winger with Spurs but Cristiano Ronaldo's concerns over losing the honor of being the costliest player in history forced Los Blancos to make a reduced offer to the north Londoners.
The lowered offer infuriated Daniel Levy and they have since refused to let Gareth Bale leave for the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
Vice-president Fernando Fernandez Tapias said: "I think it will happen but I cannot make any firm promises.
"We're going to wait because they are dragging their feet. There are a few problems but I hope they will soon be resolved. We thought that he would be with us now but as of the moment, he is not a Real Madrid player although it looks likely that he will join us."
"Even if Bale doesn't come, we have a brilliant team," Fernandez Tapias added.
"There is no doubting Bale's class, but Real Madrid without Bale is a great Madrid, we have a team of warriors."
