Andre Villas-Boas expects Jermaine Defoe stay

Andre Villas-Boas expects Jermaine Defoe stay

30 August 2013 - 06:30

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has iterated that he expects Jermain Defoe to stay at the White Hart Lane this season.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • Defoe's position at the club has been pecked down since the arrival of Roberto Soldado from La Liga outfit Valencia, having started his first game of the season during last night's 3-0 win over Dinamo tblisi.

Spurs boss Villas-Boas still believes that the English International has a part to play for the North London outfit this summer.

He told reporters: "I think he will be here after the closure of the transfer window.

"He has delivered the goals when we wanted. He has come on in the last two Premier League games and he has done extremely well for the team.

"He is a great professional with a great attitude and today he delivered a great performance.

"At the moment, we have played with one striker and Jermain and Soldado are competing for that spot with [Emmanuel Adebayor] out. There is competition and I think that is what is created in any big team."
