Juan Mata told he will be staying at Chelsea

30 August 2013 - 07:13

Despite the reported interest of Arsenal and Atletico Madrid in attacking midfielder Juan Mata, the Chelsea player has been told he must stay at Stamford Bridge this season. Jose Mourinho rejected talk of a transfer away for the Spaniard.

  • Mikel Arteta confirms big injury boost for Spurs clash

  • Juan Mata has so far found himself on the bench in the Premier League this season, leaving many to speculate that he would be heading for pastures new before the end of the transfer window.

Despite that, Mourinho wants to keep the player and insisted that there is a mutual understanding between club and player: "Everything is clear between me and the player, we have no problems. He is a very important player for us. He wants to stay, I want him to stay. So there is no story. We don’t only have a lot of players who can play in the position behind the striker. There are a lot of players who can play wide. You go to every big team and there are many options, people competing for positions."
