Can Tottenham win the Premier League title after their summer spending spree?

01 September 2013 - 06:50

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly aiming to make a challenge for the Premier League title this season, following a massive spending spree of  £100m.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Last season, Spurs missed out on Champions League qualification as their arch North London rivals Arsenal edged them once again to the spot, thanks to a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at St.James Park.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has made his intentions of securing a Champions League as well as challenging for the Premier League title clear this summer following the signing of the likes of  Paulinho, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela at record transfer deals on each occasion.

A report on the Mirror suggest that the Club's administration would not be satisfied by a mere top four finish , and would expect the North London outfit to challenge for the Premier League title against the odds.

The North London outfit are expected to allow the sale of their star midfielder Gareth Bale for a world record transfer fee to La Liga giants Real Madrid before the conclusion of the transfer window, as they try to ease the financial burden on their recent spending spree.

The loss of the talented Welshman would certainly not be an excuse for the Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas, as the Club's top officials would atleast expect a trophy for their efforts this season.

Spurs faceoff against arch-rivals Arsenal in the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium later today.
