Moyes: Anichebe can be great

Moyes: Anichebe can be great

10 November 2007 - 10:44

Everton striker Victor Anichebe has been told by his boss David Moyes that he must grasp his fantastic opportunity to become a top class professional. Anichebe has decided to represent the Nigerian football team rather than England.

  • Arsenal make surprise decision on Viktor Gyokeres
  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • Moyes said: "Victor is a terrific lad, and a great player. I told him after the game against Nurnberg that he now has a great opportunity in his young career.

"He needs to kick on and improve even more. He has shown what he can do, and if he continues to work hard at the game and shows the same desire then he will become a top player.

"So far he has done well for us coming off the bench and making an impact, but he now needs to be able to do that for longer."

Anichebe single handedly defeated Nurnberg on Thursday and said: He said: "I'm just enjoying everything at the moment.

"I had a feeling that I was going to score if I got on, but that goes down as one of my favourites. I was really pleased with it. Full credit to Steven Pienaar, though, for putting me through with such a great pass.

"I don't look at European football any differently. All I try to do is come on and do my best - and score if I can."
