Coentrao happy to turn down Manchester United

Coentrao happy to turn down Manchester United

08 September 2013 - 18:38

Real Madrid full back Fabio Coentrao is happy to have stayed on at Real Madrid despite having had the opportunity to secure a loan move away to Manchester United.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • The 25 year old Portugal international was rumored to be on the verge of leaving Bernabeu this summer after new manager Carlo Ancelotti asked him to find a new club. Tottenham were interested in his services but refused to have him included in the Gareth Bale deal.

Coentrao was the subject of a last minute loan bid from Manchester United but the Los Blancos turned it down.

"There was the possibility of joining Manchester United, but I stayed at Real Madrid, and that's what matters," he declared.

"It would have been bad if I had to stay despite having the chance to move to a better club, but that didn't happen as I already am at the best club in the world.

"I want to do better than I did last season, although I was at a very high level already. I want to show everyone that I deserve to be at Real Madrid."
