Real Madrid full back Fabio Coentrao is happy to have stayed on at Real Madrid despite having had the opportunity to secure a loan move away to Manchester United.
The 25 year old Portugal international was rumored to be on the verge of leaving Bernabeu this summer after new manager Carlo Ancelotti asked him to find a new club. Tottenham were interested in his services but refused to have him included in the Gareth Bale deal.
Coentrao was the subject of a last minute loan bid from Manchester United but the Los Blancos turned it down.
"There was the possibility of joining Manchester United, but I stayed at Real Madrid, and that's what matters," he declared.
"It would have been bad if I had to stay despite having the chance to move to a better club, but that didn't happen as I already am at the best club in the world.
"I want to do better than I did last season, although I was at a very high level already. I want to show everyone that I deserve to be at Real Madrid."
