Everton manager Roberto Martinez has praised the club's young midfielder Ross Barkley following his impressive performance during Monday's 3-2 win over Newcastle United at Goodison Park in the Premier League.

  • Chelsea beat Inter Milan to sign £47m Italian star
  • Tottenham finally agree terms with Man Utd target
  • The 19-year-old England International scored a goal for the Toffees, as the club kept their unbeaten run to the season.

Martinez told BBC Sport :"Ross is a diamond of English football, but he still has a long way to go.

"Barkley is the sort of player who controls things in midfield, and that is unusual in a player his age. I think he is an exceptional ambassador, not only for Everton but English football as a whole."

Everton are currently placed fourth in the Premier League table.
