Chelsea's Jose Mourinho confident of progress from the Champions League group stage

02 October 2013 - 03:46

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho feels that the Blues will progress to the last 16 of the Champions League.

 • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
 • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
 • The Europa League holders gave a solid away performance against Romanian side Steaua Bucuresti as they came up worthy victors by a scoreline of 4-0 to earn their first points in Group E.
Mourinho told BBC Sport: "The result is obviously very good, the points and the goals.
"The performance was very solid. We played well from first minute and kept control from then on. We played with intelligence and maturity. Playing away in this competition is not always easy.
"Now we have three points in two matches, but we are not dramatic situation, now we are in a close situation. Schalke have the advantage and we have a double fixture against them. I think we are going to qualify.
"We get points against Schalke and beat Steaua and Basel and we qualify. Tonight we had to identify what we had to do well – [Andre] Schurrle was the man to do that. We played a lot from the left side."
