Joe Hart's shaky hands may have gifted European Champions Bayern Munich a win over Man City this week, but England's manager Roy Hodgson has defended the form of Hart and told reporters that he remains England's first choice goalkeeper.

  • With some crucial games coming up for England in their chase for World Cup qualification, there had been some talk that Hodgson would drop Hart. However, Hodgson has confirmed that Hart will take part in the games against Montengro and Poland.

Hart has been widely blamed for the loss to Bayern Munich, coming under immense pressure ahead of England's qualification efforts.

Hodgson said of Hart: "I have great faith in Joe Hart and he will start in these two qualifiers. I’m sure he’s not happy with the criticism, I’m sure he is not happy with the goals he has let in that he could have stopped, but he has never let me down and I have every confidence and every faith that he will put this behind him.

"We need experienced players who have been tried and tested, and if you look at the goalkeepers we have with that criteria, Joe is clearly the No. 1. All I can say is I firmly believe in Joe Hart -- I firmly believe he is the man for the job."
