Roma confirm Man Utd missed out on Daniele De Rossi

05 October 2013 - 07:36

David Moyes tried to sign Daniele De Rossi last August, according to Roma's manager Rudi Garcia. Manchester United had hoped to bring the Italian international to Old Trafford as a replacement for Paul Scholes, who had retired at the end of last season.

 • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
 • Eventually, David Moyes made a move to for Marouane Fellaini from his former club Everton, after missing out on the likes of Cesc Fabregas and De Rossi.
Roma's boss confirmed that United made an approach for the talented midfielder.
"The Daniele who’s been playing with us since the start of the season is one of the best midfielders in Europe," said Roma's manager Rudi Garcia. "People have said to me that he was no longer the same player.
"This summer we discussed his future. He’s Roman, he’s from here, but there were big clubs after him and he was waiting to see. I said to him that I couldn’t lose him at the last minute so we fixed a date after which he would not move.
"And that’s exactly what happened. The first league match came and a few days after Manchester United called the club, called him, but the date had passed and he didn’t move."
