Man City manager Pellegrini was tempted to drop Hart

Manchester City's manager Manuel Pellegrini thought long and hard about dropping his number 1 goalkeeper Joe Hart for the 3-1 win against Everton this weekend. Costel Pantilimon has yet to make his Premier League debut and is waiting for his first team opportunity.

  • After a dire performance in the Champions League against Bayern Munich this past week, Chilean manager Pellegrini considered calling him his second choice Pantilimon for the game against Everton. However, Pellegrini decided to stick with England number 1 Hart for the game and the keeper made a few useful stops during the game.

When asked, Pellegrini admitted that he had considered dropping Hart: "It wasn't a simple decision, it was a very difficult decision, but I think Joe needs the trust of all of us. He needs the trust of me, the other players and the fans.

"Of course he feels he didn't do well the last game, he feels that he was guilty, but it was more important that he reflected how strong his character is."

Hart is expected to take part in England's crucial World Cup qualifying game with Poland next week.
