Manchester United are set to face stiff competition for their winter target Riccardo Montolivo, after Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti reportedly stated his desire to acquire the player's services.
The Italian International has been long-term target for teh Red Devils and manager David Moyes is likely to be in the market in search of players to boost his midfield department come the winter tranfer window.
However, the Premier League champions could be set to miss out on the 28-year-old, with Los Blancos now considering a move of their own.
The midfielder was named as club captain by Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri after just one season at the club, following his switch from Fiorentina last summer on a free transfer.
Real Madrid consider Montolivo as a possible replacement for Xabi Alonso, whose contract expires in the summer.
