Royle in for Wigan job?

14 November 2007 - 00:37

Joe Royle has emerged as the front runner for the vacant Wigan job. The JJB Stadium side have been looking for a boss since Chris Hutchings left the club, and it was believed Paul Jewell was being lined up for the vacant job. However, Jewell rejected the opportunity and now Joe Royle is in line for the post.

  • Royle has ruled himself out of the running for the manager’s post at Leicester City and, having said that he is ready for “one last big challenge”, the former Everton and Manchester City manager is understood to be excited about the prospect of taking charge at the JJB Stadium.

Ex-Wigan boss Paul Jewell has rejected the opportunity to return to Wigan and said: 'The offer from the chairman was a fantastic one and few would believe the kind of money I could have taken.

'That kind of offer could have meant a lot to my family and I thought about it long and hard. But I decided I left for the right reasons in the first place and things have not changed since.

'I knew when I left that I had taken Wigan as far as I could go and it would have been wrong to go back just for the money.'
