Barton sorry for Etuhu tackle

Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has apologised for his horror challenge in the 1-1 draw between Sunderland and Newcastle in the derby at the weekend.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The Football Association have decided not to take any action against the Newcastle man for his rough tackle on Etuhu as no foul was given by the referee Martin Atkinson.

"There was no malice in it, nor was it premeditated, if I caused him any injury then I apologise," said Barton.

An FA spokesman said: "Whilst it is clear the officials did not see the full extent of the incident they did see players coming together.

"To take any further action would be tantamount to re-refereeing the game."
