Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will fly out to Spain next month to persuade midfielder Xabi Alonso to transfer to the Blues. Alonso under Mourinho whilst he was he in charge at Real Madrid.

  • Alonso, who has previously played in the Premier League with Liverpool, is reportedly desperate to return to England and will disappoint many Anfield fans with a transfer switch to Stamford Bridge. It appears that Mourinho has decided Alonso is the missing piece in the jigsaw for his title chasing side.

It appears that both player and manager speak fondly of each other despite Mourinho's high profile exit at Real Madrid. Alonso is happy to have the opportunity to work under the Chelsea manager again and according to a report from Spain, the Blues will make their first 10 million Euro offer for the player this week.

A transfer to London would cast some doubt over the long term future of Frank Lampard. The England international has been a first team regular so far this year under Mourinho, but his manager remains concerned that the 35-year-old is not a long term choice for his new look Blues side.
