Jermain Defoe free to leave Tottenham for £6.5m

24 November 2013 - 13:06

Tottenham have informed Jermain Defoe that he is free to leave White Hart Lane in January. The club have priced Defoe at approximately £6.5million and clubs rumoured to have shown interest in the striker include his former club West Ham United.

  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • Defoe, who has been a prolific goalscorer for Spurs, appears to have fallen out of favour under Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane having only started one game in the league so far this season. Roberto Soldado, Spurs' big money signing during the summer is preferred as the lone striker in AVB's new look side.

Despite Soldado taking the England international striker's place in the first team, Defoe has so far seemed relatively happy to wait for his chance in the first team and as shown in the Europa League, Defoe has continued to produce the goods whenever called upon.

The 31-year-old is, however, considering a transfer away from Tottenham as he is concerned a lack of football is seriously denting his chances of a place in England's World Cup squad next summer.

Sunderland and Fulham are also believed to have shown some interest in the England international forward.
