The Belgium international, who joined the&nbsp;Lilywhites&nbsp;from Dutch giants Ajax last summer, is said to be unhappy with manager Andre Villas-Boas over him being played at left-back.<br />

Reports in Spain suggest that the Catalan club are monitoring the player's situation and may make a bid in the region of &pound;20m in order to lure him to the Nou Camp during the New Year.<br />

Barcelona are believed to be eager in strengthening their defensive department, with Vertonghen considered a prime candidate due to his eligibility to play in the Champions League.
