01 August 2007 - 11:24

Freddy Adu has completed his transfer from the MLS to Benfica in an estimated $2m USD switch. The youngster, born in Ghana, has always wanted to try his luck in the European leagues and Portugal will be his first stop . Adu, at 14, was quoted as one of the best young players in the world.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • However, he has since not shown the promise although does appear to be a technically gifted player. The versatile player can play in either midfield or attack, and will be an important asset for Benfica as they look to replace the hole Simao has left since joining Atletico Madrid.
