  • Chelsea have made the signing of a new central midfielder one of their top priorities in January and Jose Mourinho is hoping to use his relationship with Xabi Alonso at former club Real Madrid to persuade the player to move to Stamford Bridge.

Real Madrid are reportedly open to offers for the player in the region of 9 million Euros.

"I am not worried about his contract situation because I believe everyone knows he is important," Ancelotti said. "The club is talking with him about a new deal, I hope he is happy to renew it and stay here. His renewal would be the best Christmas present."
