Olivier Giroud: returns for tonight's game against Villa

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger praises Giroud

13 January 2014 - 08:58

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who is expected to make a move for a new forward this January transfer window, has heaped praise on first choice forward Olivier Giroud ahead of the French striker's return to first team action.

  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?
  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?

  • Giroud missed the last two Premier League outings and the FA Cup game against Tottenham through illness. Wenger has been encouraged by what he has seen of Giroud in training and now thinks the former Montpellier striker will be as good as a new signing for the second half of the season.

Arsenal are under pressure to bring in a new face in this transfer window, but Wenger's most recent comments seem to suggest that he may decide against making a move for a new player: "People want always new names, but what is important for us is that Giroud is back. He was a bit tired recently, but now he is refreshed and I am sure he will have a major impact on the second part of the season."
