17 January 2014 - 15:39

Santiago Vergini, the Estudiantes centre back, looks all set to agree a loan deal to join Sunderland until the end of the season. The 6 foot 3 defender could also make a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

  • Gus Poyet has been busy looking to revamp his squad in the January transfer window and Vernini is believed to be the Black Cats' top priority this month. The defender has been told he can leave Argentina for a fee of around 2.5 million USD.

Sunderland's manager Poyet is concerned about his side's inability to keep out goals and the Argentine international is expected to move to the Stadium of Light as part of a major overhaul of his squad this month.
