Former Gunner Vito Mannone dismisses Man Utd link

Former Arsenal shot-stopper Vito Mannone has insisted that he is happy plying his trade for Sunderland and not concerned by the transfer speculation surrounding him.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • The Italian, who joined Sunderland from Arsenal in the summer, has been in top form for the Black Cats in recent weeks, which has helped the club stay afloat with the rest of the teams in the Premier League.

Reports had earlier suggested that Manchester United were keen on signing Mannone as a back-up to first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea.

However, Mannone has insisted that he is not concentrating on the speculation and is keen on helping the club reach the League Cup final, with the second-leg of the semi-final tie against Manchester United to be held at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

"I don't really care about this stuff," Mannone said. "It's stuff that happens outside of the football pitch. My concentration is on the football pitch and it was on this game.

"Now we have got another massive game. I am really living my best time right now at Sunderland and I don't see why I would move right now.

"I want to stay as first choice and I want my performances to improve. That's the only aim I have, apart from aiming to beat Manchester United."

Mannone has made 17 appearances for the Wearside outfit this season.
