Napoli refuse to give up chase for Thomas Vermaelen

21 January 2014 - 03:00

Italian giants Napoli are refusing to give up in their pursuit of Arsenal backup defender Thomas Vermaelen. The team captain is frustrated with a lack of first team football and considering a move away from the Emirates.

  • Chelsea ready to pay €75m for Eduardo Camavinga
  • Chelsea planning move for Strasbourg striker Joaquin Panichelli

  • A report from Italy suggests that Napoli coach Rafa Benitez is hoping to use his connections in England to secure a deal for the Arsenal and Belgium international star.

The Gunners are reportedly holding out for a massive £14 million to even consider opening talks with any interested sides, whilst Napoli have budgeted just £7 million for the centre back.

Vermaelen has also been linked with a move to West Ham in recent weeks, but the player is not interested in a transfer to the Hammers.
