Joe Kinnear has apparently resigned from his role as Director of Football at Newcastle United.

  • The former Magpies manager, who made an unpopular comeback to the Tyneside in 2013 lead to frustration among the fans after the club failed to make a permanent signing during the summer transfer window.

However, the club have refused to reveal the reason as to why Kinnear has left the club, with many sources citing the 67-year-old's long-term health problems as a major point of his withdrawal from the role.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Newcastle United can confirm that Joe Kinnear has this evening resigned from his position as Director of Football with immediate effect. The Club will be making no further comment."

Kinnear had a stony relationship with manager Alan Pardew since his arrival, and failed to make use of the transfer budget in his role as Director of Football.
