Newcastle United are reportedly readying a summer bid for Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross, according to The Daily Mail.
The Magpies manager Alan Pardew, who is currently serving a seven-match ban, is keen on bolstering the squad at the end of the season, and considers Shawcross as a major target in the summer transfer window.
The Daily Mail claims that Stoke are keen on keeping hold of their star defender, who signed a new long-term deal just 14 months ago, but the Magpies are set to test the Potter's resolve with an appreciable bid.
Reports elsewhere claim that Shawcross' former club Manchester United have first option on the player.
