Liverpool plot summer swoop for Dortmund defender

Liverpool are reportedly preparing a summer bid for Borussia Dortmund left-back Marcel Schmelzer, according to German newspaper Bild.

The Reds boss has been forced to use a number of players for the left-back role this season, following a season ending injury to first-choice Jose Enrique.

 

According to the report, the Merseyside outfit are keen on strengtheing their defensive department for the next season, with the club set for a return to Champions League football.

 

Adding to this, the Reds boss considers Schmelzer, who has 16 caps to his name for the German national side is considered as one of the club's top targets.

 

Schmelzer has made 22 appearances for BVB this season.
