The Chairman of the Scottish FA, Gordon Smith has confirmed an approach for Alex McLeish has been turned down. Birmingham City are believed to be chasing McLeish to become their new boss in the wake of the departure of Steve Bruce.
We have been officially approached by a club, but they have been advised they can't speak to Alex at the moment," said Smith in the Daily Record.
"We're not looking for compensation, we're looking to retain Alex as manager.
"We've had discussions with Alex about extending his contract already and hope it's an option he'll still consider."
McLeish, who is under contract until 2010, revealed over the weekend that he is attracted by the prospect of managing in the Premier League.
