Barca keen on signing Ozil

Barcelona considering surprise bid for Arsenal's Mesut Ozil

24 April 2014 - 13:01

Barcelona are reportedly preparing a shock swoop for Arsenal star midfielder Mesut Ozil in the summer transfer window.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The German international joined the Gunners on a club-record deal of £42.5m from Real Madrid last summer, and was deemed to be best signing for the North London club in many years.

However, the pace of the Premier League caught up with his game, and Ozil failed to replicate his exuberant form in the second half of the campaign.

According to reports in Spain, Ozil could make a switch away from the Gunners following criticism from the fans especially during the Champions League knock-out tie against Bayern Munich.

In addition to this, La Liga giants Barcelona, who recently had their year-long transfer ban suspended pending the outcome of an appeal, will make an initial approach with a £30m bid for Ozil's services.

Ozil has scored six goals in 36 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions this season.
