Mcleish quits Scotland

Mcleish quits Scotland

27 November 2007 - 18:17

Alex Mcleish has resigned from the Scotland post, paving the way for a move to Birmingham. The ex-Scotland boss had been persistently linked with a move to the Blues, and it appears that he is ready for a switch.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Scotland, who under Mcleish very nearly performed a "miracle" recently, qualifying from a tough group consisting of international powerhouses Italy and France, have lost the man that almost guided them to a successful qualification campaign. It is a blow for Scotland, Scottish FA president George Peat stating "I am disappointed that Alex has chosen this course of action." He is now expected to become the next Birmingham boss.

The SFA Chairman Gordon Smith has said: Sky Sports News: "It is a big surprise and a blow, but it was something we had feared.

"Alex had done a very good job for the national team and then there were jobs that became available in the Premier League and he was linked with those positions.

"We did turn them down and then Alex resigned."
