Benitez denies board rift

Benitez denies board rift

29 November 2007 - 20:55

Rafa Benitez has denied that he has fallen out with Liverpool owners Hicks and Gillett. Speculation was rife that Benitez may stand down as Liverpool boss after lacking the support of the American bosses.

  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?
  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?

  • "I don't have any personal problems with the owners," he said. "I'm sure we will talk and they will understand and I will understand their ideas," the Spaniard told a news conference after the game.

Benitez has been reportedly on the leave because of the new owners’ transfer policy. The former Valencia coach asked for more players in January but Tom Hicks and George Gillett have refused to release new funds.

"It would be easier for me to stay here and do nothing and wait for the end of the month for my wages, but I prefer to do my best for the club," he said.

Benitez is set to have a meeting with Hicks and Gillett in the next few days.

"I must thank the Liverpool fans, they are always magnificent," added the 47-year old tactician.
