Preview: Sunderland vs Derby

01 December 2007 - 02:17

New boss Paul Jewell takes Derby to Sunderland on his first game, not the ideal place for the Premiership's bottom side. Sunderland's eight-match winless run has shown they are off-form, but a Derby victory could put their season back on track.

Kenwyne Jones has had rib problems throughout the week but should play for Sunderland with Nyron Nosworthy (hamstring) the only likely absentee for the hosts.

New Derby boss Paul Jewell also looks to have a fully fit squad for what already could be termed a relegation six-pointer.

    Squads

Sunderland (from): Gordon, Ward, McShane, Halford, Harte, Higginbotham, Collins, Yorke, Edwards, Etuhu, Miller, Leadbitter, Wallace, Whitehead, Kavanagh, O'Donovan, Jones, Chopra, Connolly, Murphy, Stokes, Cole.

Derby (from): Bywater, Mears, Davis, Moore, McEveley, Griffin, Leacock, Barnes, Oakley, Pearson, Lewis, Fagan, Howard, Miller, Teale, Earnshaw, Lewis, Jones.

    Keane: No 7-1 repeat

"Monday was difficult, I didn't leave my house for 48 hours, but we were back training on Tuesday and the lads have trained very well.

"The time to judge them will be on Saturday. People will learn from it and the most important thing is we learn from the mistakes.

"We've slipped into the bottom three. I don't think we deserve to be there but the table doesn't lie and we need to react in a positive way."

    Sunderland 4-0 Derby

Derby are the only team in the Premiership with only one win to their name... and they're not going to get one here. Another drubbing for Derby.

    Goalscorer: Kenwyne Jones
