Siem De Jong completes Newcastle transfer

02 July 2014 - 04:37

Newcastle have wrapped up a move to sign attacking midfielder Siem De Jong from Ajax. The 25-year-old has penned a four year contract at St James' Park and will go some way to appease the Toon Army fans who have been unhappy with Alan Pardew since the sale of star midfielder Yohan Cabaye to PSG last January.

  • Siem De Jong, who arrives at Newcastle having scored 78 goals for Dutch side Ajax, received plenty of words of praise from his brother Luuk De Jong before completing a move to England. Luuk played on loan at Newcastle last season but struggled to produce the form required to persuade Pardew to make a permanent transfer for the striker.

Instead, Newcastle have opted for the arguably more talented midfield brother Siem and the player said of his transfer switch: "I had been at Ajax a long time and wanted a new challenge in a new environment and a new country.

"Coming to Newcastle is a great opportunity and the chance to play for a club like this in the Premier League was one I could not turn down."
