Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is hoping to secure a deal for Belgium international midfielder Axel Witsel. The Zenit star has been monitored by Atleti for some time and the Spaniards are weighing up at 42 million Euro bid.
Witsel, who previously spent time playing for Portuguese side Benfica, is said to be ready to quit Russia in favour of a move to another European league and working with Diego Simeone is his preference.
Zenit are believed to be desperate to keep hold of the defensive midfielder, but could be forced to sell if the player pushes for a move.
