Nicolas Gaitan to Monaco?

Monaco are reportedly moving quickly to buy Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • Liverpool are also interested in signing the player this summer, but it appears Monaco have taken a decisive step towards securing the midfielder's services.

Monaco have reportedly reached an agreement with Benfica on a deal for Gaitan, which will see the Primeira Liga champions pocket a fee of €35 million.

The sum is €10 million less than Gaitan's release clause.

Monaco recently banked a fee of between €75 million and €80 million from selling James Rodriguez to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Gaitan will be seen as a replacement of sorts for the Colombian star.

The 26-year-old helped Benfica to a domestic treble last season, as the club collected the Primeira Liga, the Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese League Cup. Gaitan has six Argentina caps to his name and he joined Benfica in 2010.
