Atletico defender to Chelsea?

28 July 2014 - 03:24

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a move for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, but the Uruguayan is apparently in no rush to leave the Vicente Calderon. Mourinho has been following Godin and has been taking a close look at his talents during his time as manager of Real Madrid and also last season when Chelsea met Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.

  • But the 28-year-old centre-back is content at Atletico Madrid, who he helped to the Spanish title last term, and is in no rush to quit the club.

Atletico Madrid bought Godin from La Liga side Villarreal in 2010, paying around €8 million for his services.

The defender was in action with Uruguay at the World Cup this summer and currently has 81 caps for his country to his name. He scored a crucial goal against Italy which helped Uruguay to reach the Round of 16. He has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at the Vicente Calderon, winning one Europa League, one Copa del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups and one La Liga.
