Aston Villa are to sign Colombian international midfielder Carlos Sanchez. The player is on the verge of a 4.7 million pounds deal to Villa Park, arriving from Spanish club Elche. The player enjoyed an important role in Colombia's World Cup squad.

It is understood that Paul Lambert has been negotiating with Elche for a transfer for Sanchez for over a month and has moved a step closer to wrapping up a deal for the 28-year-old this morning.

Sanchez played 30 games for the Spanish club last season and is known for his strong performances from the heart of midfield and Villa will be hoping the signing adds some much needed mettle to Villa's squad for the upcoming campaign.
