Sunderland boss admits he made bid for Eduardo Vargas

24 August 2014 - 07:48

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet admitted yesterday that he had bid for Chilean striker Eduardo Vargas. Instead the 24-year-old transferred to QPR on loan from Napoli.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao

  • The Black Cats were in the race to sign the talented striker for much of the summer but unfortunately were pipped to the post by Harry Redknapp's QPR.

Poyet said: "We were very close to getting Vargas. It was a matter of decisions between everybody - clubs and cities, living and possibilities and things, and in the end, everything didn't come through for us to get the player. "That was close to us making a decision on whether Fabio was coming or not coming. It's daily. We haven't put a date on it, but it's daily and we are looking for options."
